The Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) participated in the Department of Tourism’s (DOT) Orientation on the DOT Accreditation System, Tourism Standards Updates and Gender Sensitivity Awareness for Tourism Officers in Region 1 held on October 17 at La Union, Ilocos Sur and on October 18, 2024 at Vigan City, Ilocos Sur. The event was organized by DOT Region 1 headed by Officer-in-Charge Regional Director Evangeline M. Dadat.

Leading the welcome remarks was Hon. Jeremias “Jerry” C. Singson, Governor of Ilocos Sur, followed by the orientation proper – subjects discussed started with the Republic Act 9593, an Introduction to Tourism Standards, ASEAN Tourism Standards and culminating with the Presentation of the Department of Tourism’s Accreditation Standard, with a discussion on the updated Guidelines of the Present Accreditation System, National Accommodation Standard and Star Rating and Accreditation standards. This was later followed by a demonstration of the DOT Accreditation System and Accreditation Online Application and PTA Stakeholders Recognition.

TIEZA Enterprise Services Chief, Margot Navarro Biolena, emphasized the growing potential of the tourism industry as a focal point for enterprise development in her presentation. She discussed TIEZA’s enhanced role and mandate as the Investment Promotion Agency for tourism and how the local government and private stakeholders can partner with TIEZA. Biolena also highlighted TIEZA’s role in promoting economic opportunities, community enrichment, job creation, as well as preservation of heritage and culture through the registration of tourism enterprises and development of tourism enterprise zones.

Participants, including tourism and hospitality stakeholders, were also informed about the updated guidelines for DOT’s accreditation system and the process of registering under TIEZA for the availment of fiscal incentives.
